Wherever you go, the past is everywhere. Terraced lynchets, Bronze Age barrows and Roman hillforts dominate West Dorset's softly-rounded hills. Its beauty is in its landscape, making it unlike any other place. You can see how Hardy felt so at home here. In places, off the beaten track, West Dorset has changed very little in the last half a century, making a stay here truly magical.
